




NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course- 8 Hour Course
This course teaches the basic knowledge and skills for owning and operating a pistol safely. It includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA's rules for safe gun handling, pistol parts and operation, ammunition, shooting fundamentals, range rules, shooting from the bench rest position, and two standing positions, and cleaning the pistol. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and receive course completion certificate.

Virginia Armed Training and Arrest Authority
Three courses are offered: Security Core Subjects (01E), Armed Security Officer Arrest Authority (05E), and Handgun Training (07E)

Security Officer Core Subjects
This course is an entry level curriculum for unarmed security officers, armed security officers/couriers, security canine handlers, and alarm respondents, and includes the following areas: orientation to the Virginia Code and regulations relating to private security officers, code of ethics, general duties and responsibilities, signs of terrorism, security patrol, documentation, emergency procedures, confrontation management, and use of force. Successful completion of this course includes a written comprehensive examination.

Armed Security Officer Arrest Authority (05E)
This course is required for armed security officers only. It includes information on arrest powers, the Virginia court system, due process of law, civil liability, probable cause, classification of criminal offenses and arest authority, along with various policies and procedures that must be followed.

Handgun Training
This course instructs students on the proper care and maintenance of the firearm, use of firearm, firearm retention and storage, deadly force, range safety, principles of marksmanship, practical firearms handling and safety, judgemental shooting, and familiarization with low level light shooting. Successful completion of this course includes a written comprehensive examination and range qualification.
Range Practice
In addition to classroom instruction and dry fire classroom practices, EEISS offers live fire practice at the range prior to range qualification on an as needed basis. The practice includes course of fire for DC SPO, Homeland Security (ICE), Virginia and Maryland armed security officers/guards. Range practice includes a minimum 100 rounds. The EEISS instructor will inform the student of range dates and times.
